I was confirmed HIV positive at the federal medical laboratory in
1999. Since then my health has been up and down. I came down severely
with the symptoms of fever, severe weakness and herpes sores in
my mouth and genital areas, among other symptoms. I was introduced

My lips would twist to one side when I spoke. This would worsen
with the slightest stress. My right eyelid also would not close
properly. These symptoms always elicited embarrassing questions
about my facial condition. In March 2002 I develop a heart condition

I lost my baby
in May 2001 and was deeply depressed. Months later I resumed work.
A year later after starting work, I started having funny feelings
especially on one side of my body. I had involuntary movements of
the lower lip, a disturbing tingling sensation down my upper limbs
especially when it came into contact with water. Two doctors I saw
convinced me it was not a stroke. A neurologist diagnosed stress-induced
depression. He placed me on Tegretol and Zoloft though my EEG test
was normal. I reacted very badly to these drugs, insomnia, severe
weakness and felt as though I was fainting. The movements were worse.
Yet another doctor I saw changed me to other antidepressant drugs.

private hospitals in Lagos to go home and decide with his family
if he would allow the surgeons to carry out an orchidectomy (removal
of his testicles) on him. He had been diagnosed to have prostate
cancer and was carrying a catheter to enable him pass urine. He
also had very high blood sugar levels, high blood pressure, an unrelenting
